MEET DR. CARRIE SHEETS
Licensed Clinical Health Psychologist
Co-Founder and Co-Owner of BeyondWell
Hi, I'm Carrie! MS, PhD (she/her)
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others.” This African proverb resonates strongly with me as I believe that connection, including the therapeutic relationship, is a core component of the recovery process.
Training & Experience
I have over 20 years of clinical and research experience in the treatment of eating disorders & co-morbid conditions.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree at Kalamazoo College where I played three sports, majored in psychology, and minored in Japanese. I received my Masters and Ph.D. from the dual doctoral program in Clinical and Biological & Health Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh where my advisor was Dr. Marsha Marcus, a world-renowned researcher in the treatment of eating disorders. I then completed my clinical internship at Duke University specializing in eating, weight, and health-related issues.
I have presented my work at local, national, and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. I am an active member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and the American Psychological Association, and I also served as Vice President on the Southern Board of the Nevada Psychological Association.
Approach
I use an integrative therapy style depending on the needs of each client, but primarily use CBT, DBT, and mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches.
Specialization(s)
I am highly experienced in the treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other eating problems in individuals of all ages. I also enjoy working with patients who have insomnia, chronic pain, a history of bariatric surgery, and other health problems, and I also have extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, and adjustment issues.
